Educational Intervention Impacting Rational use of Health Resources: Part 1

10 November 2021 - Kate Clutton

The project is called "Clinical and Healthcare Improvement through My health Record usage and Education in General Practice (CHIME-GP)"

Medcast delivered this educational intervention using its state-of-the-art learning platform and innovative, evidence-based approaches to education. Harnessing our methodology, team capability, technology and audience of GPs, we targeted this education at changing the behaviour of GPs. It included a mix of online learning modules, webinars and a clinical audit using a case-based approach.

An arms length evaluation of the intervention was conducted by the University of Wollongong, with a trial designed to produce a robust health economic analysis. In particular, the project elicited evidence on whether or not this educational intervention was effective in reducing unnecessary prescribing, pathology ordering and imaging ordering in the context of MHR.

Data was collected from GPs who participated in the online education by Medcast and from electronic health records generated by GP participants. Interviews were also conducted with selected GP participants.

A study protocol for the cluster-randomised controlled trial has been published in Trails journal. The full paper can be accessed at the link below:

Stay posted for updates on the outcome of the evaluation!
