Best Practice Software (Best Practice) and Medcast today announced that MedLuma, Medcast’s governed clinical intelligence layer, is now available within Best Practice’s leading practice management software, Bp Premier. The integration gives clinicians access to trusted, Australian-sourced, clinically validated and governed medical knowledge, alongside relevant professional education and automatic capture of continuing professional development (CPD) activity, within their existing consultation workflow.
The release follows last month’s announcement of a $5.4 million capital raise led by Best Practice to accelerate the development and rollout of MedLuma.
MedLuma provides clinicians with real-time answers drawn from approved Australian sources, including Australian guidelines, RACGP materials such as Red Book, AJGP, the broader medical literature and Medcast-curated education content. All outputs are governed, auditable, and supported by citations, giving clinicians transparency over the evidence informing each response.
The integration marks a significant shift in how clinical knowledge is delivered in Australian general practice. Instead of searching across multiple platforms and fragmented information sources, clinicians can now access context-aware knowledge shaped by natural language questions– directly inside the Best Practice EMR they already use.
MedLuma also surfaces accredited education at the moment of need and records RACGP accredited CPD hours whilst searching– reducing the CPD administrative burden and supporting learning while working.
Dr Stephen Barnett, CEO, Medcast said the partnership strengthens Australia’s clinical knowledge infrastructure as healthcare professionals navigate the rapid expansion of AI technologies.
“AI has enormous potential to support healthcare professionals, but clinical decisions require more than a fast answer. They require trustworthy evidence, transparent and always up-to-date sources as well as appropriate context and strong clinical governance that is relevant to Australian care,” Dr Barnett said.
“By embedding MedLuma into Bp Premier, we are moving from a standalone clinical knowledge platform to a trusted partner within the GP workflow, giving clinicians access to governed Australian medical knowledge at the point of care”

Best Practice CEO Craig Hodges said, “Clinicians need guidance they can trust. By embedding MedLuma inside Best Practice, we’re delivering a major uplift in clinical safety, consistency and efficiency. Clinicians can now access approved Australian guidance and automatic CPD without leaving the EMR. This is a significant step forward for Australian general practice.”

For A/Prof Adam Hodgkins, a practicing GP and owner of Sanctum Healthcare who has first-hand experience using MedLuma in clinical practice, the value of the integration is in making trusted clinical knowledge easier to access within the systems clinicians already use. “The integration of MedLuma into Bp Premier is an exciting development because it provides access to trusted knowledge within the consultation workflow. Having that information readily available within the software we use every day makes it easier to access relevant knowledge and remain focused on delivering patient care.”

MedLuma is now available through the latest Best Practice software release to general practices nationwide.
