MedLuma launches to give Australian clinicians real-time answers while earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at the point of care

31 March 2026 - Medcast Education

Today, Medcast launched a new Australian AI-led healthcare technology platform, giving doctors and health organisations instant access to contextual answers from trusted clinical knowledge sources while earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as they work.

It draws on verified Australian clinical guidelines, including RACGP-guidance and peer-reviewed evidence, to provide contextual, real-time answers with transparent citations back to source material.

MedLuma is launching initially for Australian general practice, where rising complexity, expanding medical knowledge and growing time pressure continue to shape the reality of clinical work. MedLuma will soon be integrated with Best Practice software, and a broader rollout across other healthcare professions is planned.

Developed within the Medcast healthcare education ecosystem, one of Australia’s leading providers of continuing professional development (CPD), supporting more than 100,000 healthcare professionals, MedLuma is designed to meet the growing demands of modern clinical practice.

The platform addresses a key challenge in healthcare: the time clinicians spend navigating fragmented and often inconsistent clinical information while making fast, high-stakes decisions. By bringing trusted evidence into a single, intelligent platform, MedLuma helps clinicians quickly access the right guidance when and where they need it.

Dr Stephen Barnett, Co-founder of MedLuma, GP and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine, said the platform was built in response to the growing knowledge burden facing clinicians.

“GPs are being asked to do more in every consultation, while the amount of medical knowledge keeps expanding,” Dr Barnett said.

“MedLuma is designed to make a clinician’s day a little easier by helping them find trusted, Australian clinical information faster, with clear references back to original sources. It supports clinicians at the point of care, while also turning everyday knowledge-seeking into professional development.”

Co-founder Justin Lewis said the platform reflects a considered approach to healthcare knowledge in Australia.

“There’s a lot of discussion about AI in healthcare, much of it driven by overseas platforms. Our approach has always been human-centred, creating a solution purpose-built for Australian healthcare,” said Mr Lewis. “MedLuma has been developed by Medcast as part of its broader mission to improve healthcare by helping professionals access and apply trusted knowledge more effectively.”

By simplifying access to credible clinical information, MedLuma enables practitioners to reduce research time during consultations, stay aligned with Australian clinical standards, and meet their CPD requirements as part of everyday practice.
