Introducing The Huddle - a podcast where nurses connect, reflect and grow

01 September 2025 - Susan Helmrich

At Medcast, we know that some of the most valuable learning doesn’t happen in lecture halls or textbooks, it happens in the tea room. Those quick conversations with colleagues where we share stories, puzzle through challenges, and laugh at the absurdities of our work often leave us with insights that shape our practice.

That’s exactly the spirit behind our brand-new podcast: The Huddle.

Hosted by Susie Helmrich, Head of Clinical Education at Medcast, and Grace Larson, Clinical Educator and paediatric guru, The Huddle is your space to pause, reflect and grow as a nurse. Whether you’re on your commute, in the tea room, or walking the dog, each episode is designed to bring you practical insights, clinical reasoning tips, and stories from the frontline of nursing.

Why start with the tea room?

In our very first episode, Susie dives into why informal debriefs matter more than ever. Those moments—swapping stories, asking “what would you have done?”, or unpacking the why behind a tricky case—aren’t just small talk. They’re powerful workouts for our clinical reasoning skills.

And in an age where information is everywhere (and not always reliable), slowing down to reflect, share, and learn together is more important than ever.

What to expect from The Huddle

Each episode will bring you:

  • Clinical stories that highlight key lessons
  • Tips and evidence to support everyday practice
  • Reflections and expert voices to help you think differently

Think of it as part debrief, part storytelling, and part professional development—all in one accessible conversation.

Join the conversation

Nursing is busy, noisy and relentless. The Huddle is your chance to step back, connect with your peers, and sharpen your clinical reasoning in a safe and supportive space.

🎧 Listen to Episode 1 of The Huddle now and discover why your next tea-room chat could be the one that changes your practice.
