Just Include Me - Inclusive Health Practice

The Just Include Me eLearning series provides health professionals with the tools to promote inclusion and deliver person-centred care for people with intellectual disability in healthcare settings.

At the end of this eLearning series, you will be able to:
  • Identify the individual needs of a person with intellectual disability for person-centred care.
  • Understand the impact of unconscious bias in health care and reflect on personal attitudes and behaviours.
  • Identify systemic barriers in healthcare that perpetuate bias and strategies to address and reduce bias in practice.
  • Determine and apply reasonable adjustments relevant to the person's needs, while liaising with others involved in a person's care and support.
  • Effectively communicate with people by identifying their communication needs and applying appropriate adjustments.
  • Understand your role in identifying underlying health factors and needs contributing to behaviours of concern in people with intellectual disability.
  • Apply positive behaviour strategies to support people with intellectual disability in engaging with health services.
  • Identify virtual care barriers for people with intellectual disability and determine reasonable adjustments to facilitate access to virtual care or alternatives.
  • Understand your role in preserving the rights of people with intellectual disability to consent and make healthcare decisions.
  • Apply decision support strategies to involve decision-makers in care provision based on individual will and preferences.
