Ovarian cancer can be challenging to recognise in primary care, with symptoms often vague, non-specific and overlapping with common gastrointestinal, urinary and gynaecological conditions. Persistent or recurrent symptoms, however, warrant careful assessment and appropriate investigation.
This mini audit provides GPs with an opportunity to review the care of three patients who presented with symptoms potentially suggestive of ovarian cancer. Participants will examine their approach to symptom recognition and documentation, risk assessment, clinical examination, use and interpretation of investigations including CA125 and pelvic ultrasound, referral, follow-up and safety-netting.
To complete this activity, select three patients from your practice who have presented with persistent or recurrent symptoms potentially suggestive of ovarian cancer. Review their care against current recommendations, identify any gaps or opportunities for improvement, and document at least one change you will make, or have made, to your clinical practice as a result of the audit.
