Preconception care for males

This course focuses on the critical role of male preconception health and its profound impact on fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and the long-term well-being of children. While preconception care has traditionally centred on women, it's now recognised that a father's health and lifestyle choices significantly influence not only conception and pregnancy but also their child's development and predisposition to various health conditions. This course aims to equip GPs, practice nurses, and other health practitioners with the knowledge and skills to confidently deliver comprehensive preconception care to male patients.

Course highlights:

This interactive course covers essential topics related to male preconception health, including:

  • The importance of male preconception care and its impact on family health.

  • Key factors affecting male fertility and pregnancy outcomes, such as age, medical conditions, lifestyle, and environmental exposures.

  • Components of a comprehensive male preconception consultation, including history taking, physical examination, and appropriate testing.

  • The role of epigenetics in paternal health and its potential influence on offspring.

  • Strategies for addressing modifiable risk factors and developing personalised preconception care plans.
