With increasing public awareness of ADHD, GPs are now at the front line of identifying and supporting management of this condition. Up to 10% of children and 5% of adults exhibit ADHD symptoms, indicating there is a heightened need for GPs to understand their role in supporting these patients.
Though current Australian legislation requires input from a paediatrician or psychiatrist for a formal diagnosis of ADHD, GPs are vital in the early identification and referral for these patients. Untreated or poorly managed ADHD has far-reaching consequences, including a greater likelihood of poor performance in school, lower income vocation, criminal behaviour, and substance abuse.
Through this series of webinars and eLearning activities, you will have the opportunity to consolidate your understanding of:
the impact of ADHD to the individual and wider society
the symptoms and diagnostic criteria of ADHD
what support and non-medical management strategies are available while awaiting a formal diagnosis
the role and application of pharmacological interventions in ADHD
the diagnosis and management of oppositional defiant disorder
This CPD activity is delivered as two hour-long webinars supported by two eLearning modules.
This is a Medcast Continuing Medical Education (CME) course.
