Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) 2 Day Face-to-Face 2025

Recognising and Managing Paediatric Clinical Deterioration

When children have an arrest, there is usually a period of deterioration anywhere from hours to days prior to the event. This course covers the differences in how children progress to cardiopulmonary arrest and outlines the physiological changes that occur throughout childhood and need to be considered when managing unwell children.

Essential Components of the Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course

In this course you will cover:

  • Paediatric presentations and causes of clinical deterioration & cardiorespiratory arrest
  • Anatomy and physiology of children and how this contributes to assessment and management
  • Identification of the seriously unwell child and appropriate pathways for escalation of care
  • Clinical scenarios and simulations of clinical deterioration events
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support algorithm and application in clinical practice
  • Performance of CPR on infants and children
  • Crisis Resource Management and non-technical skills required for resuscitation and responding to acute deterioration of paediatric patients.

PALS Certification and Target Audience

The paediatric advanced life support course provides PALS certification through simulations for the deteriorating paediatric patient, and the paediatric patient in cardiorespiratory arrest. It is suitable for all clinicians caring for paediatric patients and responding to paediatric emergencies including MET/rapid response team members.

Hands-On Skill Development in PALS

The course focuses on developing all the required skills to participate in a resuscitation and includes the delivery of theoretical content and rotation through practical skills stations. Participants will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with team members practising all skills including paediatric assessment, CPR, rhythm interpretation, manual defibrillation, PALS pharmacology, patient assessment communication and leadership. Learning is supported by the integration of cognitive aids and deliberate practice simulations with scenarios adapted to each individual’s clinical practice for a variety of patient ages to improve relevance and application of learning.

Why Attend the Paediatric Advanced Life Support Course?

You should attend this course if you require paediatric advanced life support certification, and want to learn how to identify deterioration in paediatric patients including the development of knowledge & skills for treatment and management of common childhood presentations including pathways to arrest.
