Managing sleep disorders to optimise men’s health

We all know that sleep is important, but when it comes to men’s health, it can be easy to overlook just the prevalence and consequence of sleep disorders including sleep apnoea. From feeling grumpy after a bad night’s rest to struggling with more serious health concerns, poor sleep can have far-reaching effects on both  mind and body.

Join Healthy Male in this informative webinar designed for Australian GPs, focusing on how to manage sleep problems that affect and are affected by men’s health concerns. Sleep plays a crucial role in overall well-being, and understanding its connection to common male health issues is key to providing effective care. This session will equip you with practical tools and evidence-based insights to enhance your clinical approach to men's health, especially in relation to sleep-related challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the relationship between sleep and men’s health: Explore how sleep disturbances like sleep apnoea can contribute to or exacerbate a range of male health concerns, from mental health issues to cardiovascular risks, and how poor health can negatively impact sleep quality.

  • Identify typical male signs and symptoms of poor sleep: Learn how to recognize the often subtle or unique ways that men present with sleep problems. This may include daytime fatigue, irritability, reduced libido, or physical complaints like unexplained weight gain.

  • Know when to consider sleep problems in male patients: Understand the key moments in a patient’s life or health history when sleep disorders may be playing an under-recognized role. Gain confidence in screening for sleep issues during routine consultations for common men’s health problems.

  • Learn how to manage common sleep problems in male patients: :Discover practical strategies for managing sleep disorders in men, including behavioral interventions, lifestyle changes, and when to refer for specialist care. Guidance will also be provided on pharmacological options and how to address comorbidities like depression or cardiovascular disease.
