Next in our Lunch and Learn series, we will discuss the updated Australasian Triage guidelines including the recent update based on the UK NHS Mass Casualty Ten Second Triage Tool.

In today's healthcare climate with increased demands, higher acuity patients and competing priorities, how can we apply these triage principles to clinically deteriorating patients?

This webinar focuses on the essential first few minutes of patient assessment particularly in emergency and pre-hospital settings, a critical window where timely and accurate decisions can significantly impact patient outcomes. Using patient examples, this webinar will provide a systematic approach to triage, emphasising the identification of red flags, prioritisation of immediate treatment needs and effective triage to appropriate clinical areas. You will gain practical knowledge and skills to rapidly assess patients, recognise signs of physiological and psychological instability, and make informed decisions that enhance patient safety and improve overall care outcomes.

This course is ideal for nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals working in emergency departments or other settings where triage is critical to patient care including pre-hospital and acute care where clinical deterioration can necessitate the application of triage principles. 

Learning Objectives

• Apply the 10 second triage assessment to prioritise level of care and need for immediate emergency management

• Identify red flags to prioritise immediate care and reduce risk of deterioration

• Apply a structured approach to patient assessment following ABCDE methodology to establish treatment needs

• Apply appropriate triage categories in accordance to the Australasian Triage System and allocate patients to the correct treatment locations to optimise outcomes
