ECG Interpretation Course 2024

ECG interpretation is a complex skill that requires practice and experience. Using a framework for interpretation helps provide foundational knowledge to develop and maintain the skills needed to interpret ECGs accurately.

This four-part series offers comprehensive learning tailored for healthcare professionals seeking to develop and extend their knowledge and skills on ECG interpretation. Each session is designed to build on the previous, ensuring a strong foundational knowledge as well as insights into complex cardiac issues.

Part 1: Fundamentals of ECG Interpretation 

This introductory session covers the basics of ECG components, including waveforms, complexes, and intervals. Participants will learn how to recognize normal vs. abnormal ECG readings, setting the stage for more detailed studies in the following sessions.

Part 2: Rhythm Disturbances & Electrical Therapies

Focusing on common arrhythmias and their treatments, this part delves into the mechanisms and management of conditions such as atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and the use of electrical therapies like defibrillation and pacing.

Part 3: Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS)

Participants will explore ECG signs of ACS, understanding how to distinguish between various types of myocardial infarction and ischemia, crucial for timely and accurate emergency response.

Part 4: Blocks & Axis Deviation 

The final session investigates more complex conditions, including different types of heart blocks and axis deviations, emphasizing interpretation skills that apply to diagnosing underlying heart conditions.

Throughout the series, case studies and real-world applications link theory to practice, enhancing the learning experience and equipping participants with the skills necessary for expert ECG interpretation.

Course inclusions

To optimise your learning, this course will be delivered via webinars with practice points following each session with interactive case studies. Additional skills videos will be included demonstrating management of abnormal ECGs including cardioversion and transthoracic emergency pacing.
